Two members of the gang who were keeping watch over Sardana fled the spot before the police raided the premises.

Armed police teams in plain clothes cordoned off the area between Karnal and Panchkula, which led to the rescue of the victim.

Sardana was kidnapped near house at Model Town here on May 9. The suspects frequently used Sardana’s phone from different places, including Saharanpur and Ghaziabad, while negotiating for ransom with the family.

Superintendent of police Abhishek Garg said main accused Pankaj used his rented accommodation to keep Sardana.

“Sardana was kept at one place in Karnal and three-four people used to be around him all the time.

With the help of cyber experts, crucial strategy of police and full support from the family, we tracked the movement of the criminals and finally nabbed one of them from the Zirakpur-Kalka elevated highway in Panchkula,” said Garg.

“The accused will be produced in the court on Saturday and will be questioned about his accomplices.

We are examining the role of anyone close to the Sardana family or any other person behind the crime,” said the SP.

Garg added that abductors had asked the family to carry cash and travel on national highway no.1 towards Ambala.
