The orders came from the court headed by justice Mehinder Singh Sullar. Earlier justice Sullar had also on May 15 granted re gular bail to coaccused and Panipat rural MLA Om Prakash Jain.

Thereafter on May 23, CBI special court at Panchkula had also granted regular bail to former chief parliamentary secretary and Assandh (Karnal) MLA Zile Ram Sharma, a co-accused. All the three accused were behind the bars in Ambala central jail.

Karam Singh, was found dead on June 7, 2011, at Karnal.

An FIR was registered on the same day under sections 302 (murder) 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC at the civil lines police station, Karnal.

Later, the special investigating team (SIT) had ruled out murder, declaring that it was a case of suicide.

However, on the request of deceased’s son Rajinder, the high court had handed over the probe to CBI on August 30, 2012.

The CBI had, on August 8 last year, filed a chargesheet against Jain, Zile Ram Sharma and Rajinder Shar ma, Jain’s personal secretary, for abetment to suicide of Karam Singh, though the allegations were of murder.

Karam Singh had allegedly given around Rs. 12.5 lakh to Jain and Zile Ram for the recruitment of three people but they did not return the money when the jobs did not materialise. As per the CBI, Karam committed suicide due to this reason.
