With the five-star hotels and luxury travel that international cricketers are accustomed to today, Sachin Tendulkar's visit to Lahli, which does not even have a four-star accommodation, was expected to spark interest.
The Haryana Cricket Association officials went into a tizzy the minute they were told of Tendulkar's impending trip with the Mumbai Ranji team. It was his first outing to Lahli and adding the hype around his retirement, administrators were sure of sleepless nights.
However, it was quite the opposite when Tendulkar actually arrived. The anxiousness and uneasiness gave way to a pleasant familiarity as the legend chatted with the people greeting him. He even requested them not to go overboard in a bid to please him. "Don't be over conscious. I just wanted to enjoy the place and it's rural essence," Tendulkar had told a member, who was deployed in his service.
Apart from enjoying the scenic beauty, Tendulkar was eager to devour local delicacies. "He asked us about the special dishes of Lahli and instructed us to serve them without any hesitation," said the member.
On his wish-list are baajre ki roti and aloo gobhi. However, it is the thandi lassi that Tendulkar has fallen head over heels for.
"He was served thandi Lassi as soon as he reached on Thursday evening. He liked it so much that not only did he have it during dinner but also requested us if it could be served for breakfast and dinner everyday," added the local member.
A chef from ITC Maurya, Delhi, will take care of the food for Tendulkar and teammates Zaheer Khan and Ajinkya Rahane who are staying with him at the Canal Rest House. But, if one goes by the batting maestro's wish, it's not the five-star menu but local cuisine which the legend is craving for.
