The friend of the class 12 student of Rotary Public School, who had been found hanging from an exhaust fan in the girls’ washroom of the school on Thursday minutes after being reprimanded for 'chatting' with him on her mobile phone in the class, has been identified and located in Amritsar.
On Friday, a police team was sent to Punjab to locate the boy with whom the 17-year-old victim was having a text chat when her teacher caught her in class.
The last message on the victim’s cell phone had come from his number and was tracked to Amritsar.
While the Gurgaon police are still waiting to speak with the friends and family of the victim, the accused, who has been already booked under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for abetment of suicide, is yet to be arrested.
“The police team that has gone to Amritsar has been successful in tracing the accused boy as he was identified by plain clothes police personnel, who were sent to his house.
We have not yet arrested him because we don’t want to commit any mistake before having completed all the necessary investigation,” said assistant commissioner of police (crime) Rajesh Kumar, Gurgaon police.
“We have taken possession of the girl’s Facebook, other social media accounts and her email accounts, and are looking for clues that drove her to taking the extreme step,” the officer said.
“We will arrest the accused once we are sure that he had something to do with the death of the girl,” Kumar added.
The ACP also said that the family and friends of the victim are still distraught and are not in the right frame of mind to speak with the police personnel.
The post-mortem examination report on Friday had ruled out any foul play as the body had superficial hesitation cuts indicating multiple attempts at committing suicide before finally hanging herself.
The officials of Rotary Public School had alleged that it was a suicide after the girl was caught using a cell phone with objectionable text messages.
However the student’s parents have alleged foul play and mishandling of the situation by the school management.
