State science body invites applications for fellowships

To attract meritorious students, the Haryana State Council for Science and Technology (HSCST) has invited applications for its fellowship programme.

An HSCST spokesperson said in a release on Monday that it was an opportunity for candidates who had opted for the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Junior Research Fellowship (CSIR-JRF) and were successful in qualifying the CSIR lectureship national eligibility test (NET) in the CSIR-UGC test for JRF and lectureship LS held on June 17, 2012.

He said the HSCST offered research fellowships in science subjects such as life sciences, physical sciences, chemical sciences, mathematical sciences, earth atmospheric ocean and planetary sciences. The fellowship would involve full-time research work leading to Ph D degree in the relevant subject from any institutes or university in the state.

The spokesperson said the candidates would be selected on the basis of their performance in the NET conducted by the CSIR. Candidates who had opted for the CSIR-JRF and had at least qualified the CSIR-NET would be selected on the basis of their performance in the NET for carrying out their Ph D work.
A monthly stipend of Rs 12,000 for two years as JRF and of Rs 14,000 per month as senior research fellow (SRF) for the third and subsequent years subject to terms and conditions along with annual contingent grant of Rs 20,000 to the university or institution would be granted.

The spokesperson said the upper age limit for the JRF would be 28 years as on January 1, 2012, which was relaxed up to five years in case of women, differently abled, candidates belonging to Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe community and backward classes.

He said that only those applicants were eligible who had completed M Sc or equivalent degree in any of the subjects in the areas with minimum 55% marks and had opted for the CSIR JRF (NET) and were able to qualify eligibility test for lectureship (NET) in CSIR-UGC test.

Candidates availing fellowships or financial assistance from any other source would not be eligible, the spokesperson said, adding that the announcement inviting applications along with the application format and guidelines were available on
