Investigators want to examine the call records of a man whose wife was murdered near Palwal on National Highway 2 on Sunday.

“We have sought the call details of Satvinder Lakhanpal’s partner, which we expect soon,” a police officer investigating the murder said, adding, “We want to know who Mukesh was in touch with at the time of the incident.”

“We may question him again, but only after the call details are examined,” the officer said. The police had questioned Mukesh on Monday in Palwal and let him off. His family members have been quizzed as well.

A team of policemen are in Agra, staying near the hotel where the couple had put up. The police are also scanning footage from closed circuit TV cameras on Yamuna Expressway, on which the couple chose to travel from Delhi to Agra.

Satvinder had been found murdered under some bushes close to NH 2. She and Mukesh were in their Maruti Swift on way to their Delhi home from Agra. The police said the couple had stopped their car near Palwal when four men came in a car and kidnapped them. The couple's legs and arms were tied, and they were robbed.

Some villagers saw Mukesh beneath some bushes with his hands and legs tied. His car was some distance away. The police have ruled out the involvement of local gangs in the murder.
