Toughening its stance against growing indiscipline in the party, the Congress on Monday issued show-cause notices to 84 leaders, including two former ministers, for anti-party activities.

The Congress move to inculcate discipline came just a day before the meeting of senior leaders, including chief minister Virbhadra Singh, state party chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and All-India Congress committee general secretary Birender Singh, with AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.

The Congress headquarters had received 300 complaints from block and district units of the party. Both the units had filed complaints against the erring leaders after seeking consent of party nominees who contested the Vidhan Sabha elections.

The party has set a two-week deadline for the leaders to reply to the notices.
