Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Subhash Chander on Saturday had the party’s Bathinda (Punjab) nominee, singer-actor Jasraj Singh Longia alias Jassi Jasraj, campaign for him. Jassi, done with his own campaign as Punjab has voted on April 30, claimed: “The people of Himachal Pradesh want to support the AAP, but are afraid of the Congress government.”

He also demanded central security forces to be deployed for fair elections. “The state police should not be deployed at polling booths because that directly comes under the state government, which has more than three years left of its tenure,” Jassi said, and claimed that the Congress in Himachal “Will try to influence voters just the way the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-BJP regime did in Punjab”.

“The Akali government used cash and drugs to influence the voters there.”

He pegged the AAP as a party “whose politics is different”: “We want a new system in which everyone can feel protected and independent.” Taking up nepotism, he said CM Virbhadra Singh’s politics was “just to protect the political career of his wife and son, similar to what [ex-CM Prem Kumar] Dhumal did, violating the law to favour his son”.
