Teacher held for Class-8 girls's rape, molesting 8 others in Himachal

A government schoolteacher was arrested here on Sunday for allegedly raping a Class 8 student and molesting eight other schoolgirls.

Suresh Kumar, a teacher at Government Middle School in Shri Kiyari, Shillai, has been booked for rape and under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Though the allegations were levelled on Friday, the police action came following a preliminary investigation during which statements of 12 schoolgirls, their parents and other teachers were recorded.
 
The accused is yet to be produced before a court, and it could not be ascertained when he had committed the crime.

Paonta Sahib deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Yogesh Rolta confirmed that the preliminary investigation of the case had been completed. “We have recorded the statements in the preliminary investigation,” he said. The victim belongs to Dakkar village near here. 
 

PROTEST AGAINST SCHOOLTEACHER

The state unit of All-India Mahila Janwadi Samiti here on Sunday held a procession against the schoolteacher who has been accused of raping a Class 8 student. During the procession, the protesters warned of a state-wide campaign if the police failed to take strict action against the teacher. State president Santosh Kapoor said that in such cases, the police should ensure that the accused does not get bail till the completion of the trial.


UNSAFE SCHOOLS

A similar case had surfaced at a primary school in Chudan, Nahan, on June 28, 2013. A schoolteacher and a woman cook were arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting students.
