Hizbul Mujaheeden (HM) militants killed Ejaz Ahmed in front of his newly married wife late Thursday night.

The reason: she had spurned a militant leader, Ishfaq, and got married to Ahmed, a smalltime businessman at Dewal Morha Bharmidhar village in Reasi district, about 125 km from Jammu.

Police sources said Ishfaq had been pressuring the girl’s mother Taj Begum to get married to her daughter. But she didn’t agree, as her daughter was against the idea of marrying a militant. And four days ago, Taj Begum got her daughter married to Ahmed.

According to K. Rajendra, inspector general of police, Jammu zone, Ishfaq and a few associates reached Ahmed’s house when the family was hosting the marriage dinner and killed the groom and his father in front of the bride.

They then walked up to Taj Begum’s house, a short distance away, and killed as well. Before leaving, the terrorists threatened the villagers of similar punishment if they refused to obey them.

Additional security forces were rushed to the area to nab the killers, Rajendra said, adding, “The police have launched a search operation and we are confident that we will be able to trace the killers.”
