The terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen has asked non-Kashmiri labourers, working in the valley, to leave within a week “in their own interest and protection.”

Junaidul Islam, spokesperson of the outfit, in a statement to a local news agency, said a simmering anger was brewing up against these labourers and workmen for their “misconduct and misdeeds.”

“They have contacts with the army and are involved in immoral acts, which are gradually affecting our youth. It is better for them, for their own protection to leave the valley within one week”, the Hizbul spokesperson added.

The campaign against non-Kashmiri workforce was articulated by Syed Ali Geelani, chairman of the hard-line faction of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, after police found two of the labourers — Jehangir, alias Jehangir Behari of West Bengal and Suresh Kumar, alias Suresh Moochi of Rajasthan, along with two other local boys — involved in the rape and killing of a 14-year old girl at Langate in frontier Kupwara district, last week. All the four accused are in police custody.

Geelani said criminal elements were intruding the valley in the wake of laborers from outside, “who are polluting our atmosphere here.”

“They should be told gently and politely to leave,” Geelani told a gathering in the village. He sought cooperation from all quarters to drive “these criminal elements” out. The move has already got support from High Court Bar Association and Jaish-e-Mohammad as well.
