In 2010, BSP boss, Mayawati, who was then chief minister of Uttar Pradesh was addressing a rally to mark the party’s 25th anniversary at the Rama Bai Ambedkar Maidan in Lucknow, when a swarm of bees made an appearance.

Mayawati immediately smelt a political conspiracy. Police lodged a first information report against unknown persons for the incident and an official release was put out.

"Someone disturbed honey bees at the nearby central school building by lighting a fire below the hive, following which they hovered over the Rama Bai Ambedkar Maidan for about an hour," read the official release.

The inquiry will reveal the mischievous elements behind the incident, it added.

Unperturbed by the sudden appearance of the bees, Mayawati continued to address the gathering.

"It's a matter of happiness and satisfaction that none of these bees have stung any of the BSP party workers," Mayawati said magnanimously, adding, "These bees are felicitating us."

Battle for votes: Congress targets to win at least 120 seats

Pitted against a strong anti-incumbency factor and an aggressive Narendra Modi, the Congress internal assessments have shown little hope of victory in the Lok Sabha poll. Instead, the party is now pulling out all its stops to get at least 120 seats.
