The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) will launch a crackdown against the industries which have been realizing their wastes in the storm water drains of the city.

According to officials, now an FIR will be lodged against those found discharging sewage and factory effluent in the storm water drains. Huda has as many as six master drains in Gurgaon.

"Villages, factories and several colonies do not have proper sewage and effluent discharge outlets and their wastes are often released in the master storm water drain of Huda. Badshahpur and Palam Vihar drains have been carrying the wastes in huge quantity," said a Huda official.

A team has been appointed to conduct a survey in the city with help of six executive engineers. The team will prepare its report in a week.

The team will submit the report to Huda administrator Praveen Kumar who will then allow the concerned executive engineer to lodge FIR with the police against the offender and pursue the matter accordingly.

"We have asked the HSIIDC and MCG also to cooperate in managing the sewage of factories and villages in their own ways," the Huda administrator said.

"FIR will be lodged against the defaulters under the provision of Water Prevention and Environment Pollution Act," said an executive engineer.

The deterioration in quality of ground water has been a concern for the administration.
