A Kannada actor who created a sensation by filing a police complaint against railway minister DV Sadananda Gowda’s son, Karthik Gowda, accusing him of marrying and then deserting her, said on Thursday that all she wants is for the minister to accept her as his daughter-in-law.
She also said that after the scandal exploded on live television, someone from Gowda’s family called her sister, seeking a compromise: “They told my sister they were willing to get Karthik and me married if I withdraw from the media glare.”
The railway minister said he was shocked by the reports. “It has hurt me because my personal and public life is an open book,” he said. “As a case has been registered against my son, let the law take its course and justice prevail.”

The incident could embarrass the BJP, coming a day after the row over home minister Rajnath Singh’s son being denied a ticket for bypolls in Noida sparked speculation of a rift within the party.
“If such things happen within their family, then it becomes clear how much respect they give to women in our society,” said senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi.

Youth Congress activists staged a protest against Gowda and his family in Bengaluru, demanding Karthik’s arrest.
The actor said she had recorded conversations between Karthik and her, which would prove they were married.

She also requested the media not to politicise a photograph of her with Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah that appeared on social media on Thursday. “This is only about love,” she said. She added that she wanted the Prime Minister to help her in the case. “I admire Sadananda Gowda as a person and as a politician,” she said. “I also respect (Narendra) Modiji. I want his help.”
