Police from the crime investigation agency (CIA) on Saturday arrested the four people here. The woman, Shinder Pal Kaur of Shampura, is accused of moving sand from the riverbed to her home, from where tipper trucks would carry it to other destinations. Her son is also said to be involved.

CIA officer Gurdeep Singh led the raid on her house and seized a tipper truck and two tractor trailers. Besides Shinder Pal Kaur, the team also arrested tipper driver Kulwinder Singh and tractor-trailer driver Akhtar.

A case under the Mines and Minerals Act of 1957 was lodged at Rupnagar. Two accused (Jatinder Singh and the tipper owner) are on the run.
