Monsoon showers spelt trouble for Mumbai residents as waterlogging on tracks disrupted suburban train services on Tuesday, a day after the city received its first good rainfall.
Train services on the Central Railway’s main and Harbour line were running late. Even Western Railway’s services that were disrupted on Monday owing to glitches in power supply took some time to restore.
With waterlogging being reported in localities such as Mankhurd, Vidyavihar, Thane, Vikhroli, Bhandup, the Central Railway advised commuters to have alternative travel plans. State-run buses were asked to step up services.
Central Railway’s senior PRO AK said they were keeping passengers informed “through all possible medium, including social media, FM radio and electronic media about the situation”.
A lesser-known taxi union also threatened a protest against app-based taxi aggregators, resulting in quite a few vehicles staying off the road and a harrowing time for commuters.
