Avoid going to the Walled City on Thursday morning. Traffic police have imposed restrictions on the movement of traffic on certain arterial roads for Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.
There will be arrangements to facilitate the movement of VIP vehicles, invitees and the public to reach the Red Fort and also to ensure the safe and smooth flow of traffic in other parts of the city, said Anil Shukla, additional commissioner of police, traffic.
The roads, which will remain closed for traffic between 5am and 9am, include Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail, Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail, SP Mukherjee Marg from HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Chandni Chowk from Fountain to Red Fort Chowk, New Darya Ganj Road from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg and Link Road from Esplanade Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.
“Only labelled vehicles will be allowed to use these roads during the event,” Shukla said, adding that signs will be put up to guide vehicles on way to the Red Fort at important junctions.
Parking lots at Metro stations will remain closed from Wednesday afternoon till the end of service hours on Thursday, said the traffic police. Besides, the police will not allow surface parking of vehicles on Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Sarojini Nagar. Motorists have been advised to park their vehicles in multi-level parking lots.
The traffic police, city police and PCR staff will check vehicles in areas boarding Delhi from Wednesday night, Shukla said.
