Punjab and Haryana high court's Justice NK Sanghi, who is also inspecting judge of the Kaithal sessions division, paid a surprise visit to the district courts here on Saturday.

As he reached the premises in a private car without any escort, and entered some of the judges' courts without being observed, most of them remained ignorant about his visit.

Still maintaining anonymity, Justice Sanghi watched the court proceedings and asked litigants about the judicial delivery system and the behaviour of court staff.

However, after a local judge recognised Justice Sanghi, news of his presence spread around the courts.

Later, he interacted with members of the district Bar Association, including president Rajinder Dhull, vice-president Suresh Mann, secretary Karan Gaur, and other office-bearers, besides district and sessions judge Ritu Tagore.

He also inspected the library and security arrangements in the court premises, and talked to under-trials, who had been bright to the courts.

He also directed the court staff to ensure proper functioning of fire extinguishers.

Justice Sanghi also paid a surprise visit to district prison and talked to the convicts about their diet and the facilities being provided to them, and also discussed the condition of elderly inmates, and others who required special medical care, with jail superintendent Raj Kumar Sharma.
