The opposition once again disrupted the proceedings of the state assembly over what they claimed to be a multi-crore irrigation scam. The opposition, led by the BJP, reiterated its demand for a SIT probe into the scam and stalled the proceedings of the lower house on Friday, the last day of the week.
Leader of the Opposition Eknath Khadse raised the issue by initiating an adjournment motion and sought an immediate discussion. However, speaker Dilip Walse-Patil rejected the motion pointing out that it could be raised under some other rule of the House.
The Speaker's ruling left the members of BJP and Shiv Sena agitated who trooped into the well shouting slogans against the deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar "chor hai bhai chor hai, Ajitdada chor hai" and "SIT chowkashi jhalich pahije".
While initiating the motion, Khadse said that the white paper on irrigation was tabled in the House only on Thursday and after reading it the opposition initiated such a motion against the government. He also questioned how the white paper of the government claimed that 5.17% more area was irrigated during the last 10 years when the state economic survey revealed that only 0.01% area was irrigated during that period.
The Opposition reiterated that the government should announce a SIT probe immediately.
"We have no objection for a discussion on the issue, but the matter does not come under such a motion," Walse-Patil said after rejecting the motion and advised the opposition to take up the issue through other rule of the House. Amidst the pandemonium, the speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
When the House re-assembled, the Opposition created uproar in the House and once again trooped into the well shouting slogans against the government and deputy chief minister. The speaker then adjourned the House for the day.
