J-K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said he will not have a knee jerk reaction to the rights group Amnesty International’s damning report on abuse of Public Safety Act in the state.

Abdullah, while updating micro-blogging website Twitter, said the Amnesty report deserves to be examined in its totality before comments are rushed in to.

The rights group on Monday released a 70-page report titled, ‘Lawless Law, Detentions under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act’. The report lambasted the state government for abusing the act. It claimed thousands of people have been booked under the PSA in the last two decade without any charge or trial. It claimed youth as young as 16 can be booked under the prevalent act.

The chief minister claimed he’s yet to receive a copy of the report. “And those of you working your selves in to a frenzy about the Amnesty report - I have not been given a copy so what do I comment about,” said Abdullah in another tweet.

AI’s India chapter head Vikram Jeet Batra on Monday claimed that he failed to secure an appointment with the chief minister despite being in touch with his office for the past ten days.

“We have been trying to meet him (the chief minister) and were in touch with his office for the last ten days. But he was traveling and had a busy schedule. We are hopeful to see him before leaving Srinagar,” Batra told the Hindustan Times.

Omar also took a jibe at opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti’s reference to his tweeting in Jammu. “I'm very amused by Mehbooba's reference to my Tweeting in her speech in the assembly today: - D (sic).”
