A former special police officer (SPO) was injured in a mysterious blast in his car in Kishtwar town on Tuesday.

Raj Kumar suffered minor injuries when he opened his Alto car at the mini bus stand in Kishtwar around 7.30 am, police sources said.

The explosive, which could be an IED or a crude bomb, was kept under the driver’s seat of the car, the sources said.

“We can’t say as of now that the explosive was a timer device or remote operated but the victim escaped with minor injuries because it went off the moment he opened driver’s door to get inside the car,” they said.

Kishtwar deputy commissioner, Ghulam Nabi Balwan said that the police are investigating the matter.

Raj Kumar was a former Naib sarpanch of BJP before joining Congress. He is also an RTI activist, the sources said.

A few days back, armed Lashkar terrorists had attacked Tanta police post in Doda district killing an SPO Mohammed Younis and injuring his colleague Kikar Singh.

Jammu police claimed it had solved the case with the arrest of five Lashkar activists.
