Film star Aamir Khan on the 68th Independence Day of the country launched a special drive to make Jodhpur “a garbage free city”. The drive will be undertaken jointly by the district administration and the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation (JMC).
On Saturday, Khan drove a battery-operated rickshaw to kick-off the drive at the district collector office here. He also administered a pledge of “clean and green” Jodhpur to the general public and flagged-off a fleet of battery-operated rickshaws, which will be used in all 65 wards of the city for waste collection.
The drive, inspired by Khan’s TV show Satyamev Jayate, will include door-to-door waste collection through battery-operated rickshaws and scientific disposal of the collected waste. Khan not only declared his active participation in the campaign, but also announced a donation of Rs 11 lakh for the project to be completed in next 18 months. Launching the drive in the presence of hundreds of locals at Umaid Stadium on Friday, actor said that waste management was the first thing that comes to his mind when he thinks of various urban problems.
