The state woman activists have accused the Ajmer police of protecting cops allegedly involved in the sexual assault of a transgender community member in a police station on June 5.

The activists are demanding immediate arrest of the accused cops and a probe by CBI or CID.

Addressing mediapersons in Jaipur on Tuesday, the victim alleged that she was beaten up and raped by three policemen in the Dargah police station on June 5.

When she complained to the SHO, he extorted `40,000 and promised to release her, the victim alleged.

The SHO, however, produced her in a court, which sent her to judicial custody, along with other transgenders, who were booked for beating up a traffic constable.

The SHO, Vijay Singh, was arrested on June 18 for extorting the money from her.
