Strangely enough, the college authorities have not reported the matter to police and instead just removed the accused, identified as one Jai Singh Bhati. The accused runs the canteen for the hostel boarders.

The college principal has also called a meeting of the harassment committee of the college on Sunday morning after the girl lodged a complaint against the accused, sources in the college administration said.

Several attempts to contact the principal VK Kakaria failed. While he picked up the phone on the first attempt but disconnected as soon as the matter was raised. Subsequent calls to him went unanswered.

Other teaching staff too refused to speak to the media.

The victim hails from Haryana and is also pursuing her BEd along with BSc.

She claimed the accused grabbed her behind while she was having dinner alone as other boarders were either on fast on the occasion of Shiv Ratri or had an early meal.

“I cried for help but nobody came to my rescue. I managed to push him away and escape to my room,” the victim said.

The canteen is located around 100 metres from the hostel building.

Another boarder, who did not wish to be named, said that she saw the victim with clothes torn, rushing to her room.

“She was crying and went into her room and locked her door without responding to my queries,” she added.
