The police have arrested the Udaipur based lawyer Harsh Kumar Sharma, who is accused of sexual assaulting and threatening a woman, on Friday
night from Udaipur. The accused has been sent to judicial custody by the chief judicial magistrate.
The case was filed only on January 17 after the additional chief judicial magistrate's court here asked the police to take cognisance of the woman's charges.
The incident took place on November 11 last year and the victim herself had handed over the accused -- Harsh Kumar Sharma - to the police the same day.
However, the distraught woman had not lodged a written complaint and only told the police verbally about the assault on her, police sources said.
The accused was allowed to go within half-an-hour and is at large since then.
A case was filed at the City Kotwali police station under sections 376, 511, 384, 354, 120 B of the Indian Penal Code - all relating to rape and threat to life.
The victim, a lower division clerk at the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, said in her complaint filed with the court that on the fateful day, when she was alone at home,
the accused had grabbed her from behind and tried to force himself on her.
She had, however, managed to escape from his clutches.
Both the accused and victim were known to each other and hence she had allowed him into the house despite her mother and sister being away.
She also said that she had managed to trick the accused into accompanying her to the police station but to her surprise the police simply allowed him to walk
Speaking to Hindustan Times, she had claimed that later in the evening on the same day, the accused had tried to break into her house and even threatened
the entire family.
