Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday replayed his need-for-young-faces-in-polls tune and hinted at creating a new leadership in the state.

Kick-starting the Lok Sabha campaign from Deoli town of Tonk district, about 160 km from the state capital, he said, “We will field new faces, be it assembly, Lok Sabha or Pachayat (elections). You will see a government of new people-- of the new generation.”

Addressing a jam-packed gathering at Dusshera ground in Deoli, Gandhi stressed the need for creating a new leadership in the state and emphasised achievements of the UPA government, specially about poverty elevation.

In a little over six-minute speech, he promised to strengthen employment and education rights and highlighted the UPA’s achievements.

He said, “In last 10 years of the UPA government, we have prepared a new class of 70 crore people, who are above below poverty line, like guards, drivers etc and work daily for the country but are under the middle class. We want to run the government and do politics for them. We want to raise them to the middle class level.”

The UPA government has brought 15 crore people above the poverty line in 10 years, he said and reiterated, ‘”We do politics to empower people...do politics to raise people from poverty, to give them honour, rights, education and employment.”

Gandhi said BJP leaders talk about corruption but they could not see corruption by their governments in Rajasthan, Karnataka and Gujarat. “BJP in their previous regime in Rajasthan was number one in corruption and even this time they will try to repeat the same. But,  but Congress would expose them,” he said.

Present in the meeting were former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, union ministers Bhanwar Jitendra Singh and Lal Chand Kataria, state party incharge Gurudas Kamat, AICC genreral secretary CP Joshi and other leaders.
