The school fee regulatory committee headed by former justice Shiv Kumar Sharma may have passed orders many a time that schools cannot hike their fees unless the regulatory body gives a nod to the same, but almost all schools in Ajmer are defying the panel’s orders and have increased their fees.

Some schools have even hike their fees by 20% — the upper ceiling of the yearly increment laid down by the panel. Parents have questioned the sanctity of the panel’s orders restraining schools from increasing their fee without any valid reasons.
“What is the use of a regulatory body when it cannot enforce its regulation,” said Nand Kishore Gurjar, a parent of three children studying in Maharaja Agrasen Public School. The school has increased its fee by 25% without improving any facility. Another parent alleged that despite a hike in fees twice in the last two sessions, the school has not increased any facility. However, Agrasen School’s principal Meena Sharma defended that the decision to hike the fees was justified. “Almost all the schools in the district have increased their fees and ours is not an exception,” said Sharma. When asked if her school management had obtained a go-ahead from the fee regulatory panel before increasing the fee structure, and she instantly replied, “I am not aware.”
Meanwhile, district education officer SC Sharma said that he would look into the matter if any complaints are made. “So far, we have received seven declaration forms regarding fee structures from different schools and they have not made any hike in their fees,” said Sharma. However, parents have alleged that despite making many complaints to the DEO, no action has taken against the erring schools. “I have submitted a written complaint to the DEO regarding arbitrary hike in fee, but no action has been initiated by the DEO,” said Gurjar.
