The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an infiltration bid and shot a terrorist on the Line of Control (LoC) in Keri sector of Rajouri district, on Monday night. Rajouri is about 150km northwest of Jammu.

Briefing the media here on Tuesday, BSF Jammu frontier IG Ram Awtar, said, “In another display of vigil, troops of the 163 BSF battalion, deployed in Rajouri sector, foiled an infiltration attempt by heavily armed Pakistani terrorists on the LoC.”

“In the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, BSF troops deployed on forward duty points, along the fence in Keri sector, observed suspicious movement of 3-4 terrorists moving towards the fence. The sentries immediately alerted the nearby duty points and simultaneously observed the movement. As the terrorists approached the fence, one of them tried to negotiate it,” said Awtar.

“However, BSF troops brought down effective fire on them and the terrorists responded with fire using automatic weapons. They also fired UBGL grenades on the troops. BSF troops retaliated with targeted fire in which one of the terrorists was killed at the fence itself,” the IG added.

He said due to effective firing, the other three terrorists were unable to move further and retreated back towards PoK, taking advantage of darkness and the undulating terrain. As they were escaping, it could be seen that one of slain or injured militant was being dragged along, he informed.

Following this, the area was kept under intense surveillance throughout the night. On Tuesday morning, BSF searched the area and the dead body of a slain terrorist was retrieved from the fence, said Awtar.

The arms and ammunition recovered from the site includes one AK-56 rifle, 16 AK magazines, 267 live rounds of AK ammunition, one radio set, one binocular, five grenades, three wire cutters, four back pack bags, two IEDs, one AK magazine fitted with IED, one knife, two chargers, sheets and dry fruits and juices.

“Since the killing of three militants in an encounter on November 29 last year near Chamliyal in Ramgarh sector of Samba district, the BSF has successfully foiled 11 infiltration bids on the International Border and 15 bids on the along the LoC in Jammu region,” the IG said.
