The Coordination Committee of separatists on Sunday accused the Jammu and Kashmir Government of "hatching a plot" to eliminate separatist leaders. "We have information that the government has hatched a plot to kill Hurriyat Conference leaders and other separatists to supress the voice of
Kashmiris", Coordination Committee spokesman Masrat Alam told reporters in Srinagar on Sunday.

Alam's disclosure comes in the wake of Government claim that some separatist leaders face threat from vested interests.

Earlier, an official spokesman had said that curfew in the valley was a precautionary measure as "some of the leaders face threat from vested interests".

The Coordination Committee spokesman, however, said the Government's claim was in fact a move aimed at "preparing ground for elimination of Hurriyat leaders."

Reacting to the detention of second rung Hurriyat leaders and house arrest of its top brass, he said "such acts will not weaken the ongoing movement in Kashmir".
