A J&K police inspector was suspended and action against a senior superintendent of police (SSP) has been recommended for allegedly sexually exploiting a police constable's wife.
A preliminary departmental inquiry had found SSP Mansoor Ahmed Untoo and inspector Mehboob-ul-Haq guilty of the charges levelled against them by the police constable.
"We cannot take action against the SSP on our own. Action against all officers above the rank of additional superintendent of police is taken by the home department," said DGP Ashok Parsad.
Chief minister Omar Abdullah himself heads the home portfolio.
"Prima facie, the officials have been found guilty. A departmental inquiry will also be conducted," said IGP (Armed) Prithvi Raj Manhas, a member of the two-member inquiry team.
Additional director general of police (ADGP) SM Sahai said he had suspended Mehboob-ul-Haq who was working in the armed division of the state police.
The action against officers was initiated after the victim's husband had written a letter to the DGP who then directed the ADGP (Armed) to look into the allegations.
The inquiry was conducted by IGP (Armed), Jammu zone, PR Manhas.
IGP (Armed), Kashmir zone, T Punchok had said the family life of the constable was severely affected by the conduct of the two officers.
The call records of the officials and the woman revealed that they had been calling her in night.
