A Japanese man, Makota Sukoma (38), died after crashing into a hill while paragliding at Bir Billing in Baijnath subdivision of Kangra district on Friday. Sukoma took off from the assigned take-off site in Billing in the afternoon but lost control of the glider and crashed into a hillside, said sub-divisional magistrate Sunaina Sharma. He was rushed to Vivekanand Hospital in Palampur, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Bir Billing figures among one of the top paragliding sites in the world, and hosted the Paragliding World Cup Tour in 2015. The Indian National Open Air Paragliding Accuracy Competition is slated for November 11-14 here.
