An army jawan went missing with his service rifle from a camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

The soldier has been identified as Zahoor Ahmad, a resident of Pulwama district in south Kashmir. He reportedly escaped with one AK-47 rifle and three magazines of ammunition from his camp in Gantmulla area of Baramulla.

GoC Kilo Force AK Singh said the army will take stringent step so that it won’t be repeated.

“It is not a matter of much concern. We will take stringent action so that such matters don’t repeat,” Singh told news agency ANI.

An army source said it is yet to be confirmed if the jawan has joined the militant ranks.

Investigation has started and a massive manhunt has been launched.
