Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has been in hospital for two weeks with a government-controlled veil of secrecy around her ailment.
The lack of information has fuelled a storm of rumours on social media, despite the government and Apollo hospital – where she is undergoing treatment – repeatedly saying she is recovering and will be back at work soon.
On Thursday, the state government rushed a three-member team of specialists from Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences – a cardiologist, a pulmonary specialist and an anaesthesiologist – to Apollo, triggering more speculation that the CM had suffered multi-organ failure. But Twitter was at least convinced that the AIADMK chief was alive.
