Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa’s health condition “continues to improve” and she has been advised further stay in the hospital for treatment, the Apollo hospital said on Monday, a day after it said she was being treated for “infection”.

“The honourable chief minister of Tamil Nadu who is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, continues to improve,” chief operating officer of Apollo Hospitals Subbiah Viswanathan said in a press release.

The treatment plan including appropriate antibiotics, respiratory support and other allied clinical measures are presently being continued to treat the infection, the release said.

She “is responding adequately to the comprehensive treatment being given to her. A team of doctors are collectively monitoring her treatment,” the release said, adding, she has been “advised further stay in the hospital for treatment.”

On Sunday, for the first time since she was hospitalised on September 22, the Apollo Hospital said the chief minister was being treated for “infection” and is “responding well”.

A bulletin from the hospital had said that it had taken expert opinion from a UK-based doctor who examined her and concurred with the present line of treatment.
