A contractor was found murdered on the Jharkhand-Odisha border late on Friday night with his severed head stuffed in his abdomen. The police said members of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) were behind the murder.

The deceased has been identified as Sindhusagar Das, a resident of Ambapani village under Bansjor police station, around 200km from Ranchi.

Das’s family in Odisha has filed a complaint and an investigation will be conducted by Odisha police.

Jharkhand police have learnt that around 20 armed men raided the victim’s residence around midnight and dragged him to Manjhapara village where he was murdered.

Simdega superintendent of police AV Minz said PLFI rebels led by area commander of Kolibera zone Vikram Gope alias Barud murdered the small-time businessman.

Barud is wanted by the Jharkhand and Odisha police in more than 50 cases. In Simdega alone, around two dozen murder cases have been registered against him.

“Our police team rushed to the site to nab them. A case has been registered at Raiboga police station,” Minz said.

A police officer of Bansjor said, “The PLFI members tortured the businessman before killing him. Torture marks were visible on his body.”

The murderers had split open the deceased’s abdomen and stuffed the head in it, said the officer. “The victim’s limbs were also cut,” he added.

Senior police officers of Jharkhand and Odisha held a meeting on Saturday to launch special operations against the PLFI rebels.
