The onion-laden truck overturned after hitting an auto rickshaw on Thursday evening, trapping one passenger of the three-wheeler under it with severe injuries, sources said.

His cries for help fell on deaf ears as the villagers allegedly began looting onions and fled when the police arrived, sources said, adding more than half of the truck containing onions was looted.

The passenger was declared brought dead by a doctor when he was taken to a nearby hospital, the police said.
