Residents of Farain Kalan village and Farain Khurd village of Jind district have agreed to send children to school from Thursday.

After a Class-9 girl was allegedly raped by a teacher, villagers locked the school and demanded action on the accused teacher and other members of staff, including head master.

“We are satisfied with the investigation and the role played by the education department. Now, we will send our children to school from Thursday,” sarpanch Sheila Devi's husband Madan Pal said.

The accused teacher, Rajinder Singh, has been terminated from service and sent to jail on a charge of rape, while headmaster Sadhu Ram has been arrested on a charge of suppressing the issue. Pal said Narwana deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rameshwar Lamba had been investigating into the case to ascertain the role of other former teachers in suppressing the issue.

The education department has replaced nearly 15 teachers and the new staff has joined the school in Farain Kalan.
