Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is to support UPA presidential candidate Pratibha Patil in the coming election to the country's top post.

The matter would soon be discussed by the MPs and MLAs of the party, JMM leader and Jharkhand Agriculture Minister Nalin Soren said in Dhanbad on Friday night.

On the controversial delimitation issue, he blamed the erstwhile NDA government for reducing the number of seats for the scheduled tribes. "The then NDA governments at the Centre and the state had in a well calculated conspiracy held the census at a time in the tribal areas when they were out on work."

He claimed that over 42,000 adivasi families from over 100 villages in Jharkhand were out of the ambit of the census and demanded a fresh head-count.

The only alternative left with the Centre was either to introduce a new bill in Parliament to save ST seats or put on hold the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission on the lines of Tripura.
