Justice (retired) Ashok Ganguly has resigned from the position of honorary professor of the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS). Almost a week ago, faculty members of the university wanted the institution to sever all ties with the former Supreme Court judge.
In December last year NUJS faculty members appealed to its executive council to dissociate the institution from Ganguly following an allegation of molestation by a former student when she was interning under him.
"I have been associated with NUJS in various capacities in the past and currently I was an honorary professor there. But today I have sent my resignation. It is true that a section of the teachers there did not want me but there was a section who were with me. However, in principle I thought this would be the right thing to do," Ganguly said, adding, "I saw that it (his association) was becoming a burden on the university."
