As soon as the video vent viral on TV channels, senior police officials got into action and attached Nayak to the SSP's office besides ordering an investigation into the incident.
"When I took him into custody he was continuously saying that he would kill himself as nothing was left in his life after the death of his wife Jyoti. I was just trying to console him," said Nayak.
Speaking to HT on the incident, senior superintendent of police (SSP) KS Emmanuel said: "I've formed a team under IPS officer Prabhakar Chaudhary to investigate the matter. Such type of irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated."
The SSP further said: How can he (Nayak) behave like this and that, too, in front of the media. I've also written for his transfer."
During the day, police secured custodial remand of Piyush Dasani. He was brought to the circle officer's office in the evening where he broke down several times before the media. Nayak, on his part, consoled him, saying such mistake happens in life.
"Will you malign your parents' name in future? All will get well," he told Piyush while patting him. Then he kissed him on his forehead.
His act is being seen as lending credence to the belief that police have an extremely soft corner for Piyush.
