Back from 10-day long Pakistan visit, moderate Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said Kashmir and Afghanistan are interlinked and both the countries cannot reach to any understanding unless Kashmir dispute is not resolved.

"Pakistan and India want an understanding on the Afghanistan problem, which is not possible till the Kashmir issue is resolved. The US is changing its attitude and looking towards Asia, China, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. We hope that there will be a new policy in the coming year towards Kashmir issue," said the Mirwaiz, who arrived from Pakistan in Srinagar on Friday.

Addressing to supporters at Jamia Masjid in the old city, the Mirwaiz said warned of more street uprising in the coming years in case Kashmir issue is not addressed.

"People's revolution in the Middle East was inspired by the Kashmir protests in three successive summer protests from 2008 to 2010. People have spirit and capacity to repeat 2013, 14 and 15," he said.

He asked New Delhi to shun its militaristic attitude towards the Kashmir problem. "Elections, roads and panchayat cannot change the Kashmir cause and are no solution to the Kashmir issue," he said.

Buoyed by Pakistan visit, the separatist leader said he is not averse to talk to New Delhi. "We will talk to India provided the Kashmir issue has to be given priority above all levels," he said.

During his visit to Pakistan, the Mirwaiz, heading a seven member team, met heads of political parties, besides Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari.
