A day after the AAP government resigned, Hindustan Times spoke to former education minister and party spokesperson Manish Sisodia regarding Kejriwal’s decision to quit and the party’s future plans.
The Congress said that it would support the Jan Lokpal Bill if it is introduced in a proper manner. Why did you not wait and do that?
According to the Congress, the Constitution means nothing. According to them, officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs are above the Constitution and the orders passed by them are above the Constitution as well. A 2002 order by a MHA officer is not what we follow. We follow the Constitution. The Congress has various such orders attached in various files and they cite these orders according to their convenience.
Is your party, then, a single agenda party?
No it is not a single agenda party. We had various agendas that we have and were in the process of paying attention to. The issue of corruption, however, is very important for us. All problems, be it infrastructure, education and schools will be solved if corruption can be irradicated. Earlier, people were skeptical about an honest government being able to achieve something. They have seen now that it is possible.
What is the future of the anti-corruption branch, the anti-corruption helpline and the various FIRs that the AAP government had registered?
Let there be fresh elections. We will come back with a majority. Meanwhile, I have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor and am appealing to everyone else regarding the six important cases which have been registered. These are grave issues that affect the day to day life of citizens. I request that they not be diluted and the investigation be conducted in a proper manner.
What is the party’s agenda for the nation and the state now? Who is going to be the face for Delhi if Arvind Kejriwal is the face for the general elections?
We will travel around the country, Kejriwal will also travel and we will launch a national campaign. Kejriwal is not important, Jan Lokpal is. We will focus on issues. As for the face, let us see what the election schedule looks like and what it permits.
