Nine students of the Sree Krishna College in Kerala’s Guruvayur were arrested Sunday for publishing “objectionable and unsavoury” language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of a crossword puzzle, police said.

Those arrested – including the student editor of the magazine, its sub-editors and members of the editorial advisory committee – were let off on bail soon after, the police said.

They have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 153 (wantonly giving provocation, punishment for defamation and printing matter known to be defamatory).

This was the second such case reported from the area after the campus magazine of a polytechnic college featured PM Modi in the list of “negative faces” along with Adolf Hitler, Osama bin Laden, George Bush and a few others.

The principal and a few students of the polytechnic college were arrested and released on bail last week after police had charged them under the same sections of the Indian Penal Code.
