BJP member of Parliament and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna has taken strong exception to the statement by Pradesh Congress president and MP Saif-ud-Din Soz that the BJP is a communal party.

He said Soz should know that the BJP has following in all the communities and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is also fast gaining popularity among Muslims, Sikhs and other minority communities.

Khanna added that it is the Congress, which has been using communal card from time to time for vote-bank politics. "It is the same party, which creates communal tension at the time of elections by appeasing one community at the cost of other community," he said.

In Kishtwar also, the August 9 riots against the minority community were engineered by the administration under the patronage of a coalition minister who is also the local MLA, Khanna claimed, adding that the Congress did not raise any objection to the minister's conduct.

On the other hand, a union minister belonging to the Congress made a statement in Parliament, saying the Kishtwar riots were result of personal altercation, he added.

Khanna said the BJP is the only truly secular party in the country and the coming elections will prove this because the people have understood the Congress' pseudo-secularism, which is based on caste and religion.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is hoping to ride the Narendra Modi wave to make inroads into Jammu & Kashmir as the state goes to the polls on Tuesday, but the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) could emerge as the biggest gainer, say analysts.
