Well-known Bengali actor-director Dilip Roy died in Kolkata on Thursday after a prolonged battle with cancer, his family sources said.
Roy, 79, was a bachelor and is survived by three adopted sons. He also had an adopted daughter who passed away earlier this year.
Born on December
17, 1931, in Chittagong, now in Bangladesh, Roy moved to the residence of his elder brother at Neamatpur in Burdwan district where he had his education.
Coming over to Kolkata in the mid-fifties with the intention of making it to the Bengali big screen, Roy began his struggle in the studios of Tollygunge.
