West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan is understood to have received a first-hand account of the government's stand on tackling Maoists and the situation in ultra-hit areas during a meeting this evening with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. Narayanan, a former National Security
Advisor, held talks with the chief minister on the naxal menace, official sources said.

The meeting came within hours of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram making it clear that it would not accept any pre-conditions for talks with Maoists.

The ultras had made a conditional ceasefire offer asking the government to halt the offensive against them for 72 days and involve mediators for talks.

Narayanan had held meetings with Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakraborty, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen, DGP Bhupinder Singh and Commissioner of Kolkata Police Gautam Mohan Chakraborty in the last few days.
