Maoists killed four CPI(M) supporters at West Bengal’s Lalgarh on Wednesday night. The Communist Party of India (Maoist) rebels killed as many as 10 people last week in and around Lalgarh, 180 km west of state capital Kolkata. On Wednesday night, Binay Mahato, 35, his uncle Manik Mahato,
65, and Brihashpati Mahato, 50, were picked up from their residences. Later, their bullet-riddled bodies were found on a road close to Jhargram town.

Maoist posters were also found beside the bodies, saying the three were executed for helping the combined forces. Also, Rabilal Mahato, 43, was murdered in the Shalboni police staion area.

“It’s just a show of cruelty,” said state police chief Bhupinder Singh. At Lalgarh, around 10 Maoist rebels raided and burnt a forest beat office, about 1.5 km from a camp of the combined force.

On Thursday morning, the combined force personnel raided three villages in the Midnapore town police station area and beat up villagers for allegedly harbouring Maoists.

In the evening, activists of the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA)  garlanded members of a school managing committee with shoes “for misappropriating mid-day meal rice,” said PCAPA spokesperson Asit Mahato.

In Motihari, Bihar, two Maoists were arrested from Yadopur Chainpur village of  East Champaran district late Wednesday night.

In Gumla, Jharkhand, a maoist was arrested and three landmines were recovered  from different areas of Jharkhand, police said.

In a separate incident, security personnel recovered three powerful landmines from Bidir village of Latehar district which were later defused.
