The Railway Minister has yet again struck a controversial note, saying murders and encounters are being carried out in Maoist-hit areas. Mamata Banerjee questioned the manner in which people are being killed while CBI was investigating cases. She spoke in reference to the recent gunning
down of Umakanto Mahato, prime accused in Gynaneshwari Express rail tragedy.

“The CBI is carrying on the probe. On one hand it is declaring someone as wanted, on the other hand he is getting killed in encounter. There is state-sponsored and CPM- sponsored terrorism going on in Lalgarh areas,” she said at a rally. “Encounters and murders are being carried out in he name of clashes,” she added.

“CPM and the state government are conducting a terror campaign in the troubled zones. CPI-M is undertaking the killings under the disguise of Maoists. There are 90 camps of armed CPM cadres, which are running there. There is a stockpile of arms and ammunition,” she alleged.

She said the camps must be dismantled or people will take matters in their own hands. She said Governor MK Narayanan in his report to the Centre has highlighted the CPM-run camps in the areas.
