A member of the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) was killed in a gunfight with the security forces on Sunday. Around 38 were taken into custody.
The clash started in the Bhaklukbasha forest, around 30 km west of Lalgarh, on Sunday morning. Lalgarh is about 160 km west
of Kolkata.
On Sunday, the police were informed that Ranjit Duley, the abducted Communist Party of India (Marxist) local committee member and school headmaster, was kept hostage in the jungle.
The PCAPA has agreed to release Duley if six of its members are freed.
