West Bengal Police on Tuesday announced a reward of Rs. 50,000 for any information about the whereabouts of Nicol Tamang, prime accused in the Madan Tamang murder case who is absconding after escaping from CID custody on Sunday. "We have announced a reward of Rs. 50,000 to anyone who gives
information about Tamang leading to his arrest," CID ADG Raj Kanojia told PTI in Kolkata.

All police stations in north Bengal have been alerted and houses at Pintail village in Siliguri from where Nicol
escaped were searched, Darjeeling SP Devendra Pratap Singh said in Siliguri.

"We have left no stone unturned, but Nicol has not been found," Singh said.

West Bengal Home secretary Samar Ghosh said that CID IG Neeraj Nayan would leave for Darjeeling on Wednesday to join the team of investigators there.

CID sources said that the inspector-in-charge of the case, Ardhendu Sekhar Pahari, was removed and departmental
proceedings were being drawn up against him for the escape of Nicol, a close aide of GJM president Bimal Gurung and the party's central committee member.

The sources said that Nicol had reportedly told Pahari that he would reveal full details of the May 21 murder of
Madan Tamang to him on August 22. Following this Nicole was taken to the house in Pintail village from the lockup at the Pradhanagar police station.

Nicole, who was not handcuffed, escaped on the pretext of going to the toilet, the sources said.

CID officer Aniruddha Chatterjee and constable, Arabindo Kumbhokar, who were in charge of his custody were
suspended yesterday.
